1. Before the battle
79 linesIs this really the right place?
Well, we're at the right address, at least. Seems like a hall used for events and ceremonies.
You know, the letters sent to us were kind of peculiar, so it seemed like the right idea to get together and investigate them.
But isn't it weird that they were posted directly to our houses in the first place?
Yeah, not to mention there being one for Kon too.
That's really strange.
What's weird is that the letters had "Invitation" written on them. There's nothing weird about me getting a letter!
Besides, I think there's something a lot weirder than the letters going on here! Look!
Oh, am I late?
Aizen?! What are you doing here? Don't tell me you're the one who sent us these...
I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I am not responsible for this situation. It seems you all received the same thing that I did.
An invitation from someone calling themselves "S."
And apparently there is yet another invitee.
We must work out why these letters were sent. What is the purpose of gathering us all together?
Byakuya was invited too? What the hell is this?
Welcome, chosen ones. My name is...
...well, you can call me "S."
You're not "S," you're Ambassador Seaweed! If this was meant to be a mystery, don't make it so obvious!
H-How did you know?!
Why did you think we wouldn't? So, you're the one who gathered us together.
You were talking all kinds of nonsense last time, and now suddenly, what, you're organizing a death game?
You two seem rather familiar, Ichigo. Do you know each other? Or what that thing even is?
Kind of... I guess...
That's Ambassador Seaweed! I know him too.
It's a wonderful character Rukia's brother created!
I see. So that's how it is.
Anyway, there's always trouble when he's involved so let's get out of here before it starts.
None of you are free to go!
Everyone here is going to take part in a most terrifying game called "Seaweed Game: A Challenge from S."
If you don't clear the game, you can't go home. I look forward to seeing your efforts!
*Slam*
Wh-What was that sound?
Most likely the sound of us being locked in.
So, we're all confined here together, and we cannot leave unless we clear this game of his.
Damn it... We were too late.
I see. It really does seem like getting involved with him leads to nothing good.
Hey, I don't see Rukia's brother! Oh no, the death game's already claimed its first victim!
Calm yourself. I am here. I was merely inspecting our surroundings.
I knew we could count on you! Well? Did you find anything?
Every door in this hall is completely sealed off.
All of them?! Every single one?!
All of them. There are no exceptions.
You gotta be kidding me. But this is exactly what an emergency exit is for...
What are we gonna do, Ichigo? We're in big trouble.
I really don't think we need to take this too seriously.
Really? Well, if Ichigo says so, then I suppose we'll be okay, but...
What's the matter, Orihime? Why so glum?
Is something bothering you?
As suspicious as it was, I thought it really might be an invitation to a party after all.
So, I bought a cake on the way here, just in case.
But, I guess it was for nothing after all...
You brought a thank-you gift to such a suspicious gathering...?
Do not be worried! Your thoughtfulness will not go to waste. I will make use of this gift!
Huh? Well, that's very kind of you, but...how will you use it?
For the first game, you are to give your best food review of that cake!
The presenters will be these two!
Well then, allow me to begin.
As I take my first bite, a nebulous flavor that lingers between dreams and reality immediately permeates my mouth.
The velvety sponge crumbles away, leaving only shining impressions, like stars twinkling in the darkest night sky.
Then, before you realize, it is gone. Like an illusion that has passed from this world.
Its flavor was magnificent.
Didn't expect you to take this so seriously...
I do not believe this situation is dire enough to neglect a bit of entertainment.
I thought I might as well take this chance to enjoy the moment to its fullest.
So, uh, what flavor was it? I didn't understand anything in that review... Did you really eat a cake?
I bought it at a very highly regarded cake store, so I wanted everyone to try it.
You're the best, Orihime! Give me a slice!
Wait. I was chosen for this. You'll have time to enjoy yours later.
That's true. For now, let's see what you've got!
Fine...
Sandwiched between the airy sponge is the most exquisite chocolate.
Not too sweet, not too bitter. There is no lingering aftertaste.
It's an easy-to-eat, delicious chocolate cake. Thank you Orihime.
You're welcome!
Did those two really eat the same thing?
One review was super vague while the other was really straightforward...
Both of you gave such wonderful reviews, I can practically hear the applause!
Really...?
I hate to admit it, but you pass the food review challenge! Let's move on to the next game!
