Although Squad 10 is tasked with its protection, the Ouin is stolen by assailants who appear suddenly without warning.
Toshiro seems to remember the assailant who took the Ouin, but he hides his Spiritual Pressure and disappears from the Soul Society.
The captain of Squad 10, Toshiro Hitsugaya, who was responsible for the protection of the Ouin, is declared to have violated regulations and becomes a hunted man.
The Past The Soul Society
I plan to become a Soul Reaper and devote my life to the Soul Society.
Oh, yeah? Well, you know, I was thinking...
Wow, look at that score! You really are a genius!
I don't know about that.
Still, I'm not going to let you beat me next time. Toshiro, you and I... We're friends, right?
I am Hyorinmaru. Child, do you think you're capable of mastering me?!
I do! Obey me now, Hyorinmaru!
I did it! I did it! Toshiro?!
Ah!
We both obtained the same power. What a coincidence! This is incredible!
The Central 46 has reached its decision. It is not permitted for two Soul Reapers to wield the same Zanpakuto.
The council has decided that the two of you shall duel. It is the only way to determine the rightful master.
You're saying that the only way to settle this is to fight to the death?!
It is the council's decision. To see who is deserving. The Hyorinmaru is strong and requires such a test. Consider it an honor.
If keeping it means I'd have to kill my friend Kusaka, then I'd rather surrender Hyorinmaru!
To...
Absolutely not.
Why can't we both wield the same Zanpakuto?!
It is a sacred law. It has been in place since ancient times.
You must fight! Fight! Fight!
The council has reached the decision that Toshiro Hitsugaya shall be the one master of Hyorinmaru.
It's not over! He hasn't won yet! It's mine! I'm the rightful master of Hyorinmaru!
Wait! Just give me one more chance! Gck... Gaahhh!
Kusaka!
Why have you done this? Why must I die? Why?
2. After the battle
10 linesPresent Day Karakura Town The World of the Living
*Gasp*
There's no need to sneak around!
If you needed to leave, I don't see why you wouldn't just walk out the front door like a man!
A treasured artifact called the Ouin was stolen from the Royal Family. It's far too complicated for a Substitute Soul Reaper like you to understand.
Tell me, why are you trying to go this alone? What is it that's buggin' you so much?
Does this have anything to do with Kusaka?
*Gasp*
He's probably the guy who attacked you and took this Ouin thing, isn't he?
He's someone who was killed a long time ago.
